Our Beliefs
OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH
- In essential belief-we have unity
- In non-essential beliefs –we have liberty
stands or falls …. So then each of us will give an account of himself to God…hast thou faith? Have it to thyself before God.” Romans 14:1, 12, 22
- In all our beliefs-we show charity
mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:2
THE ESSENTIALS WE BELIEVE
ABOUT GOD
We believe that there is only one true God, the Eternal Maker and Ruler of heaven and earth; that in the unity of the Godhead, there are three Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit coequal in every divine perfection and is one God. (Genesis 1:1, 26, 27; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; I Peter 1:2;
II Corinthians 13:14)
ABOUT JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose again from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will physically return again someday to earth as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15;
I Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; I Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13)
ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and with Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need of Jesus Christ. He lives in every Christian from the moment of Salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.
(II Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18)
ABOUT THE BIBLE
The Bible is God’s Word. It was written by human writers under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit to keep them from all errors and omissions in recording God’s message to us. The Bible is composed of sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament and is a supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs, unity and living. The Bible is the complete and inerrant Word of God.
(II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21; II Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5; Revelation 22:18-19; Deuteronomy 12:32)
ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS
People are made in the spiritual image and likeness of God, to be like Him in character. People are supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, we are all marred by the sinful nature passed on to us from Adam. This sinful nature separates us from God. This spiritual separation from God will result in eternal separation from Him. The greatest need of man is to address this spiritual problem by being reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, the only Saviour of man.
(Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 5:3-6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1, 2)
ABOUT SALVATION
Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus Christ in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
(Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12, 14:6; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1)
ABOUT MARRIAGE
True, biblical “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. It cannot be another meaning because God creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. Thus, marriage is a holy covenant before God but it goes far beyond the earthly covenant since it is also a divine picture of the relationship between Christ and his Bride, the Church. (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:18-25; Malachi 2:14-16; Matthew 19:4-6; Mark 10:6-9; 1 Corinthians 7:1-6; Ephesians 5:22-32; Hebrews 13:4-7)
ABOUT ETERNAL SECURITY
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot lose it. Salvation is maintained by the grace of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.
(John 10:29; II Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10-14; I Peter 1:3-5)
ABOUT ETERNITY
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.
(John3:16, 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; I Corinthians 2:7-9)
